Definition of a diamond

A beautiful, sparkling element that comes in many shapes and sizes, diamonds are one of the most popular gemstones. They are also one of the highest priced because they are so expensive to mine.

The term “diamond” actually refers to two different minerals. The less valuable colorless form is called carbonarite or cubic boron nitride. It does not have any special qualities other than being very hard and durable.

The more highly prized white diamond was once referred to as pure (meaning it doesn’t contain any impurities) cetyl alcohol. This name is now outdated since scientists discovered traces of arsenic inside some diamonds.

However, even though these diamonds do not conform to our current definition, we still refer to them as “pure” or “absolutely clear” due to their lack of fluorescence. Some people like this property and use it for decoration.

How diamonds are formed

Almost every diamond you’ve ever seen comes from two main sources, either natural or synthetic. Natural diamonds come from meteorites that burn up in Earth’s atmosphere, producing minerals like carbon and oxygen. These stones are then sorted into color categories (e.g., white, yellow, pink, etc.) and quality grades (rough, cut, polished).

Synthetic diamonds are made in labs, where pure hydrogen is mixed with methane gas to create plasma. This plasma is heated and melted down, and any impurities left over are filtered out. The resulting material is called “fused” or “polycrystalline” diamond because it contains many separate crystals.

Both types of diamonds can be further classified by their internal structure. Colorless diamonds have an extremely thin surface layer called a [*cautionary*] label suggests avoiding this stone due to its limited durability.

Stephanitic diamonds contain small void spaces within each crystal which give them their characteristic pale luster. They are the most common type of diamond used for jewelry.

The different types of diamonds

There are many different categories of diamond jewelry, some more expensive than others. These include setting styles, karat (quality) rating, and style or shape. Settings can be inlays, rings, or pin-on pieces.

Karat is a way to describe the quality of a diamond. A higher karat number means better quality stone. However, do not assume that because something has a large karat number it will last longer! Some diamonds may seem strong but they could be very thin.

Shape is another important factor to consider when buying jewelry. Many people love off-the-face engagement rings due to their elegant look. But this isn’t for everyone. You should try on several rings before making your purchase!

What was mentioned about shapes applies here as well. Even though it may be pretty, if you never use it then it is wasted money. Buying online is great since you can compare prices and see all the pieces from within your own home.

How to choose a diamond

When it comes down to it, there are two main things that determine the price of a diamond. The first is the carat weight- how much greece will cost you more as diamonds get larger.

The second factor is the setting style – whether or not the jeweler uses fancy techniques to showcase the beautiful gem.

There are many different styles for settings so don’t feel like you have to spend lots of money if you want to keep it simple. We recommend staying within one hundred dollars per piece unless you really love long earrings.

Touchstone test

There is one universal truth in jewelry: if you love it, it’s worth something. If you are not sure about an item, take it off. It will either make you feel good or bad depending on whether you put it on or took it off.

If you keep taking it off, it’s probably not your style or quality of materiality (the way materials like diamonds, pearls, and silver ooze sex appeal) nor does it fit with your lifestyle. Or maybe you just don’t want to be seen wearing it. Either way, this is a strong indicator that the item is not quite right for you.

I learned this lesson when I was twenty-two years old. I had bought a bracelet at a very expensive store as part of a gift set for my best friend’s birthday. At the time, she wanted long, elegant, classic looks, so I thought this would be perfect!

But then her dad told me he didn’t care for the look of the bracelet and asked where it came from. The next day, I went back and exchanged it for another one that was more casual and less formal.

It made me realize how much power some jewelry has — it can make people think of you or talk about you. So even though I loved the first one, I never wore it outside of the house because I didn’t want anyone to comment negatively on it.
